The Chief Secretary is the head of the Civil Service, a diverse organisation with 50+ departments. This position is currently held by Mr Darren Grech since February 2018.
The role of the Chief Secretary is to ensure that the Civil Service, as an organisation, meets the needs of the Government of the day by providing advice and implementing its policies effectively. In addition, he oversees the management and resources of the entire civil service and is responsible for the 3000+ civil servants that work for HM Government of Gibraltar, all of whom are accountable to him.
The Civil Service provides a wide range of services to members of our community, businesses, the private sector and tourists.
