The Minister for Protected Disclosures, the Hon Sir Joe Bossano MP, commented further to his statement in Parliament yesterday on whistleblowers:
“I have been approached by many individuals, including whistleblowers themselves and family members of whistleblowers, who have expressed that they are pleased their matters are finally being aired. I am aware that many have gone through, and continue to go through, very difficult times.
I also note the statement from Commissioner Owain Richards in relation to the whistleblowers’ statements, confirming that some of the allegations were previously the subject of independent investigations and that other matters are ongoing and remain under review. This demonstrates the reasons why he and the Royal Gibraltar Police now enjoy our confidence.
In relation to my statements in Parliament yesterday concerning OP Delhi, at no time were my comments aimed at the Director of Public Prosecutions or his offices, nor were they intended to cast any doubt on the independence, impartiality or integrity of the DPP or his offices in the role they played in that case.
My comments were directed solely at the conduct of certain officers of the Royal Gibraltar Police who were serving at the time.”
