April 30, 2025

The Gibraltar Tourist Board, on behalf of the Ministry of Tourism, is pleased to confirm the event schedule of the Victorian Association, a UK-based re-enactment society passionate about the Victorian era, who will be bringing the past vividly to life in Gibraltar as part of Heritage Weekend celebrations in May.

Heritage Weekend 2025 has been organised by Gibraltar Cultural Services on behalf of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, with the support of the Ministry of Heritage.

Known for their detailed portrayals of military history, The Victorian Association will be hosting a series of living history events throughout the weekend, with their busiest and most event-filled day taking place on Saturday, 10th May.

  • 10:30 Hrs: Victoria Cross Award Ceremony – Alameda Gardens
The day begins with a stirring recreation of the Victoria Cross medal presentation to Private William, just as it was carried out in 1880. This powerful tribute to courage and tradition promises to be a moving start to the day's events.
  • 12:15 Hrs: March to The Piazza & Changing of the Guard Re-enactment
Following the Victoria Cross Award ceremony, the Victorian Association will march in full military regalia to The Piazza, where they will perform a dramatic re-enactment of the Changing of the Guard, a classic display of military precision and tradition.
  • 13:15 Hrs: Joining the Gibraltar Re-Enactment Association to portray a historical rendition of the Ceremony of the Keys – Casemates Square
The day will culminate at Casemates Square with a symbolic event marking the locking of the garrison, steeped in historic tradition.

The Victorian Association will be joined throughout the day by The Gibraltar Re-enactment Association, The Gibraltar Band and Drums Association and members of The Gibraltar Sea Scouts Pipe Band.

These groups will add pageantry, colour, and sound to the day’s events, creating a vibrant, immersive celebration of Gibraltar’s rich military and cultural heritage.

On Sunday, the Victorian Association will be stationed at the iconic 100-Ton Gun from 10:00 – 14:00 Hrs where they will perform drills and demonstrations and interact with the public. It is a fantastic opportunity for history lovers of all ages to ask questions, take photos, and learn about the Victorian-era military life.

Do not miss this unique opportunity to step back into history and discover the stories behind the uniforms and traditions.
