Traffic authorities in Gibraltar and La Linea work together to alleviate flow issues during fair week - 570/2026

July 17, 2026

The Chief Minister has, noting the issues of traffic flow from Gibraltar into La Linea, has this afternoon spoken with Mayor Juan Franco, who shares the Government of Gibraltar’s concerns.

Both parties have committed to working together to mitigate as far as possible the difficulties created by the La Linea fair causing a sharp left turn at that junction, and by the multiple pedestrian crossings further slowing the flow of traffic across the single available lane.

Meetings are being organised between the respective traffic authorities of Gibraltar and La Linea to find short term solutions to aid traffic flow during fair week.

In the longer term over coming months, the plans for new traffic and pedestrian arrangements across the border should help to deal with such issues more generally.

The Chief Minister, the Hon Fabian Picardo KC MP, said: “I was pleased to be able to call on Mayor Juan Franco this afternoon so that all possible avenues to alleviate the traffic flow issues we are experiencing on both sides of the border can be explored and acted on quickly. This is an example of the cross-border co-operation that has been brought about by the Treaty, and we are committed to working together to find solutions for the benefit of everyone who crosses our frontier every day.”
