‘TRACES OF HUMANITY’ ARRIVES IN GIBRALTAR FOR FINAL CHAPTER OF INTERNATIONAL CULTURAL EXCHANGE - 514/2026

July 02, 2026

The third and final stage of the landmark international exhibition Traces of Humanity has opened at the Gustavo Bacarisas Gallery following successful and widely acclaimed exhibitions in Margate and London.

Organised by Gibraltar Cultural Services (GCS), on behalf of the Ministry for Culture, and curated by Philippa Beale, the exhibition brings together 35 artists and over 65 artworks creating a unique dialogue between Gibraltar’s rich heritage, contemporary artistic practice and the enduring story of human creativity.

Inspired by the internationally significant Gorham’s Cave Complex UNESCO World Heritage Site, Traces of Humanity explores themes of identity, history, memory and human expression through the work of Gibraltarian artists, members of the Lloyds Art Group and internationally renowned artists.

The Gibraltar exhibition follows a highly successful programme in London’s West End, which generated significant interest in Gibraltar’s cultural offering and provided valuable opportunities for artistic collaboration and exchange. The official opening of the Gibraltar leg was preceded by a special sponsors’ event organised by Aon and supported by Lloyds Art Group. A reception at the Mayor’s Parlour followed, hosting together artists, supporters and invited guests to celebrate the culmination of the project.

In addition to the exhibition itself, visitors will be able to engage with an extensive educational programme of talks, presentations and public events running throughout July. These initiatives will further explore the themes of the exhibition and the importance of the Gorham’s Cave Complex as a window into humanity’s shared past.

The exhibition will be open to the public from 1st July to 31st July at the Gustavo Bacarisas Gallery.

Opening Hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 10:30am – 6:30pm
  • Saturday: 10:30am – 1:30pm

Admission is free and all are welcome to attend.

Launched by the Minister for Culture and Tourism, The Hon. Christian Santos GMD MP, said:
