The Minister for Sport sends his best wishes to Athletes at the Commonwealth - 501/2023

July 27, 2023

A team of four young athletes have been selected to represent Gibraltar and will be traveling to Trinidad and Tobago to participate in the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games taking place between the 4th and 11th August.

The team comprised of swimmers Asia Kent and Merrick Kent and Aitana Bado and Katherine Rogers competing in Atheltics, will be accompanied by officials Linda Alvarez as General Manager, and Damina Chang Chipolina, as Swimming Coach. They will depart Gibraltar this coming weekend.

All four athletes competed in the Guernsey Island Games very recently where Asia Kent in particular did extremely well in breaking national records and winning a Gold Medal.

Both Commonwealth Gibraltar President, Harry Murphy and Secretary General, Joe Schembri, will also be travelling with the team both to support them and to attend catch up meetings with the CGF regarding the withdrawal of Victoria (Australia) from hosting the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The Minister of Sport and the GSLA wish the Athletes and Officials all the very best in these Games.
