Statement on Spanish Foreign Ministry reshuffle - 518/2021

The reshuffle announced yesterday in Spain has been widely predicted. The Chief Minister has been in contact with Ms Gonzalez Laya to thank her for her positive approach in the time she was in office and to wish her well. Snr Albares has worked on Gibraltar matters before, as the Moncloa Sherpa at the time of the Withdrawal Agreement. He is therefore familiar with the relative positions of the parties.
The Chief Minister said: "I have thanked Arancha Gonzalez Laya for her approach and have wished her well on behalf of the People of Gibraltar. I look forward to the UK/EU Treaty negotiations being positively supported by Snr Albares as he takes over in the Spanish Foreign Ministry."
