May 13, 2026
Gibraltar’s beaches will transition from the pre-season arrangements into the full summer bathing season, which will officially commence on Saturday 23rd May 2026. As announced last year, this is about two weeks before the usual start of the official season. From this date, lifeguards will be deployed at all beaches and swimming pools, and full Beach Attendant and accessibility services will be in operation across Gibraltar’s coastline. This marks the start of the summer provision aimed at ensuring safety, accessibility, and enjoyment for all users. In other respects, there may be some transitional arrangements with everything completed by 13th June.
The GSLA Bathing Pavilion and Europa Pool will open as part of the official bathing season. Likewise, the swimming pools at Camp Bay will be operational following the completion of essential maintenance works. These preparations take into account the seasonal impact of adverse weather conditions earlier in the year, which affected infrastructure and readiness.
The Supported Needs and Disability Office (SNDO), together with the Department of the Environment, Sustainability, Climate Change and Heritage, have continued their collaborative efforts to ensure that persons with disabilities have appropriate access to the sea and beach facilities. All beaches, with the exception of Sandy Bay, will have Beach Attendants, and accessible stations will be operational at all beaches except Sandy Bay and Little Bay.
To further support members of the public, a Beaches & Pools - Accessibility Information Booklet, has been created. This booklet aims to provide detailed information on accessibility provisions across Gibraltar’s beaches and pool facilities. The booklet includes information on accessible locations, available equipment, accessible toilets and changing facilities, parking, transport links, and support services available throughout the bathing season. For further information, please refer to the booklet.

The Supported Needs and Disability Office and the Department of the Environment, Sustainability, Climate Change and Heritage, in collaboration with Community Care Domiciliary Services Ltd, will provide carers at beaches and swimming pools throughout the bathing season, with the exception of Sandy Bay and Little Bay. This initiative aims to support service users requiring assistance accessing the sea and ensure that all members of the public can fully enjoy and experience Gibraltar’s beaches and pool facilities during the summer season, promoting greater inclusion and enabling everyone to make the most of Gibraltar’s coastal amenities.
