St Bernard’s Lower Primary School held its 5th annual ‘Moroccan Day’ recently to coincide with the end of Ramadan and the festival of Eid.
The children and staff went to school dressed in traditional Moroccan attire and spent the day learning about Morocco, its culture and traditions, which play such a vital part in Gibraltar's own heritage and history.
The children took part in a range of fun activities including tasting traditional foods, expressive arts, traditional stories and exploring the Arabic language. Local expert Mrs Kaula El Andaloussi, the Imam’s wife and a role model for the local community, went to the school to share her personal experiences with each year group, making it a wonderful experience for the children.
Headteacher Mrs Caruana and acting Humanities coordinator Ms Vaughan extend their thanks to Mrs El Andaloussi and all the staff at St Bernard’s who went over and above to encourage an engaging and meaningful appreciation of the Moroccan influences in our daily lives, both at school and in the wider community: “It was a fantastic day filled with learning, curiosity and respect!”
