Public Consultation on School ‘Half-Days’ - 250/2025

Given that most schools already have air conditioning, the Government of Gibraltar is considering putting an end to the traditional ‘half-days’ or ‘summer hours’ in schools and replacing them with a lesser number of full days. This would result in slightly shorter terms with only full days as from the coming Academic Year that starts this September.
The Department of Education has been considering this for some time, and there have been representations to this end in the past from individuals and groups.
The Government is therefore opening a consultation period to give members of the public the opportunity to provide their views on the proposal. These should be sent to halfdays@gibraltar.gov.gi by 25 April 2025.
