The Gibraltar Electricity Authority can confirm that the loss of power suffered this afternoon resulted from a contractor going through a major cable(s) in the area of the North Mole Power Station.
The contractor, Calpe Electrical, has fully accepted liability for the power cut in question.
The works the contractor was undertaking were commissioned by the GEA itself for the installation of the reserve battery power systems.
The contractor had been given a schematic diagram by the GEA showing where all the relevant cables it should avoid were laid.
