New cemetery entrance coincides with other improvements - 813/2025

November 04, 2025

Minister for the Environment, the Hon Professor John Cortes MBE, last week inaugurated the new entrance to North Front Cemetery, together with Maurice Stagnetto. Works for the new smart entrance area and planting were sponsored by Lewis Stagnetto Ltd, whose warehouses are located across the road from the cemetery, as part of a general improvement to the area.

The new entrance provides a well-kept, dignified space for the hearse and for families and friends attending funerals, replacing the undignified parking free-for-all that was often the case in the past.

Coinciding with the improvement to the entrance, the Cemetery management has enhanced its maintenance programme, with work having been carried out in landscaping (under contract to Greenarc), painting of walls, and the removal of rubble and other debris, resulting in a much smarter look overall.

Minister Cortes said:
“We have made much-needed changes to the way the cemetery is maintained to coincide with the works kindly sponsored by Stagnetto’s. We are planning further landscaping improvements to enhance the site, which is so important to the community.”
