HM Government of Gibraltar is pleased to announce the inauguration of the newly restored and interpreted Tower of Homage in the Moorish Castle, delivered by Fortress Attractions in collaboration with the Gibraltar National Museum.

The attraction will open to the public on Monday 14 September.

The project represents the first in a series of major heritage attractions which will deliver the Government’s Three Empires vision – telling Gibraltar’s remarkable story through the Moorish, Spanish and British periods and bringing together some of the Rock’s most important historic fortifications within a coherent visitor experience.

The Moorish Castle has undergone extensive conservation, research and interpretation, allowing visitors to better understand both its medieval origins and the many different roles the complex has played throughout Gibraltar’s history.

The opening will be followed over the coming months by further phases of the programme, including the Dungeons experience within the former prison complex and the opening of the Northern Defences, creating a historic route through fortifications which span centuries of Gibraltar’s military history.

These projects form part of the Government’s wider commitment to conserve Gibraltar’s heritage while making historic sites accessible, educational and engaging for residents and visitors.

The inauguration of the Moorish Castle therefore represents not simply the completion of one project, but the beginning of a much wider journey through Gibraltar’s Three Empires.
