The Minister for Housing, the Hon Pat Orfila, recently met with the Chilton Court Tenants Association on Tuesday. Accompanying the Minister were the Ministry’s Senior Executive Officer, Senior Housing Officials, CEO of the Housing Works Agency and representatives from the Royal Gibraltar Police.
Several key points were discussed during the meeting. Firstly, concerns were raised regarding the current entrance to the estate, with particular attention drawn to the unsightly location of the bin area. It has been agreed that steps will be taken to address this issue promptly.
Additionally, discussions centred on the condition of the road surface and paving, which were noted to require attention and levelling. The Tenants Association also highlighted concerns regarding the external plumbing and gutters installed within the past two years, which have proven to be unfit for purpose. Safety concerns relating to the children’s park area and football area were also addressed.
Further issues included the need for certain works to be carried out on the blocks to reduce water ingress experienced by some tenants. Recommendations were also made by the Royal Gibraltar Police for tenants to report any instances of anti-social behaviour directly to them.
Reflecting on the visit, Chairperson Ms Davina Villa expressed positivity, noting the attentiveness and willingness of all parties to collaborate towards improving the estate for the benefit of all residents.
In response, the Honourable Minster for Housing, Pat Orfila MP, said: ‘This Government is committed to continued engagement with Tenants Associations across Gibraltar so that we can work together to ensure a great standard of living in our estates. We will thoroughly examine all matters raised, with a view to directly addressing Tenant’s concerns.’
