The Minister for Industrial Relations, Civil Contingencies, and the Fire Service, the Hon. Leslie Bruzon, has recently returned from a productive working visit to Cyprus, where he engaged in a conference and a series of meetings.
Organised by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), the conference aimed at strengthening cooperation and sharing best practice between nations.
During the visit, Minister Bruzon and the Clerk to the Gibraltar Parliament, Mr Phillip Borge McCarthy, were hosted by the Chief International Relations Officer of the Cyprus House of Representatives, Christiana Solomonidou. They also had the opportunity to meet the Chair of the UNOCT Policy Dialogue on the Coordination Mechanism for Parliamentary Assemblies and Rapporteur for PAM on Counter-Terrorism, the Hon Mrs Rita Superman MP, with whom they discussed a range of matters of mutual interest as well as ongoing areas of collaboration and potential future initiatives.
The Minister, who also featured on Limassol TV during a report on the conference, expressed his sincere appreciation for the hospitality extended throughout the visit, describing Cyprus as “a truly beautiful country with a rich history and culture”, as well as commending the professionalism and courtesy of the officials.
Follow-up work is already under way, with the Minister confirming that he is already liaising with colleagues to ensure progress on the matters raised.
Speaking upon his return, Minister Bruzon said: “I am grateful for the warm welcome and constructive dialogue during my time in Cyprus. There is clear value in the continued exchange of ideas, expertise and perspectives between our jurisdictions. I look forward to building on the discussions held and exploring further opportunities for cooperation.”
The Government of Gibraltar extends its thanks to the Government of Cyprus, UNOCT and PAM as well as all those involved in facilitating the visit.
