His Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar is pleased to report a substantial reduction in waiting times for surgical procedures across the Gibraltar Health Authority. The median waiting time for all surgeries has decreased from 23 weeks in 2022 to just 9 weeks as at August 2025. This represents a 14-week improvement across the board and reflects a focused effort to address one of the most significant pressures on the GHA.

The progress has been particularly notable in orthopaedics, where the median wait has fallen from 40 weeks in 2022 to just 7 weeks today. This outcome follows a series of targeted clinical and operational measures designed to increase theatre throughput, improve coordination across surgical teams and prioritise patients most in need.

The Minister for Health and Care, the Hon Gemma Arias-Vasquez MP, said:
“These figures represent a clear and measurable improvement in the amount of time people have to wait for surgery. Whilst I fully acknowledge that we still need to improve waiting lists in other areas, behind every reduced waiting time is a patient whose quality of life has been improved more quickly. This significant reduction in surgical waiting times has only been possible through the commitment and professionalism of our clinical teams at the GHA who I wish to publicly thank.”
