Minister for Environment John Cortes is one of the expert authors of the new Atlas of European Mammals, published by CRC Press this week.
Professor Cortes, who is a recognised expert on the Barbary macaque, contributed the section on this species for this major work that covers 247 species across 42 countries.
Each species account covers the distribution of the species as well as notes on its ecology and biology.
Prof Cortes said, “It was a real honour to have been approached by the publishers to write this account, joining renowned mammal experts from across Europe in what is an important and exciting work on European biodiversity. It’s been a while since I’ve published in a scientific book, and I am very pleased to have contributed. It summarises the work of many others as well, given the research that has gone into this species in recent decades, led in particular by GONHS and the Gibraltar Veterinary Clinic as well as the Universities of Zurich and Notre Dame, and more recently the University of Gibraltar”.
