Her Majesty's Government of Gibraltar has noted the unanimous decision of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom declaring unlawful the advice of the Prime Minister to Her Majesty The Queen to prorogue Parliament.

The Chief Minister, the Hon Fabian Picardo QC MP,  said "The judgement delivered by Lady Hale confirms the core principle that the Government and the Prime Minister are always subject to the control of the Courts.  In our system of law and government, whether someone is a Prince, a Prime Minister or a pauper, we are all subject to the law.  This judgement is therefore a demonstration of the workings of a nation properly governed by the rule of law. This is what keeps us - and our property - safe from political and governmental abuse and it distinguishes the UK and Gibraltar from so many other nations. We will now see the UK Parliament return to continue its deliberations of all aspects of Brexit. This is also a demonstration that the UK's core institutions are working neutrally - without fear or favour - despite the deep and palpable partisan and Brexit related political divisions."
