HM Government reinforces commitment to inclusive recruitment for persons with disabilities - 660/2026

September 07, 2026

HM Government of Gibraltar would like to highlight our Inclusive Recruitment Programme for Persons with Disabilities, reinforcing its commitment to ensuring that recruitment practices across Government are inclusive, equitable and accessible.

The programme is being highlighted following the recent announcement of new vacancies within HM Government, providing an opportunity to raise awareness of the support available to persons with disabilities as part of Government’s wider approach to inclusive recruitment.

Latest job vacancies can be found on the HM Government of Gibraltar website.

The programme supports HM Government’s wider commitment to promoting equal opportunities in employment and is underpinned by its Inclusive Recruitment Policy, which emphasises that candidates should be considered for employment based on their aptitudes, abilities, skills and qualifications.

At the heart of the programme is the principle that disability should not be a barrier to employment and that persons with disabilities should have a fair and equitable opportunity to demonstrate what they can bring to the workplace. The programme does not alter the requirement for candidates to meet the relevant criteria for a post but seeks to ensure that persons with disabilities are able to participate fairly in the recruitment process.

The Inclusive Recruitment Policy recognises the importance of ensuring that candidates with disabilities are not placed at a substantial disadvantage compared with non-disabled candidates throughout the recruitment process. This includes identifying and, where appropriate, removing barriers that may prevent an individual from demonstrating their suitability for a role.

As part of this approach, reasonable adjustments can be considered and implemented where required during recruitment. These may include providing additional time during an interview or assessment, adapting lighting or the physical environment, providing information in an alternative format or making other appropriate adjustments according to an individual’s needs.

Reasonable adjustments may also be considered in the workplace for employees with disabilities. The purpose of these adjustments is to remove or reduce barriers and enable employees to perform their roles effectively, taking into consideration the circumstances of both the employee and the employer.

HM Government recognises the significant contribution that persons with disabilities can make to the workplace. A diverse workforce brings different experiences, perspectives, skills and strengths and creating an inclusive working environment ensures that Government is better able to benefit from that talent.

The programme also seeks to build greater awareness and confidence around inclusive recruitment, ensuring that persons with disabilities understand that support and reasonable adjustments can be considered throughout the recruitment process and, where appropriate, within the workplace.

Chief Secretary, Glendon Martinez, said:

"As Gibraltar’s largest employer, HM Government is committed to ensuring that our recruitment processes are fair, inclusive and accessible. We want all candidates to have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills, abilities and potential, while ensuring that appropriate support is available throughout the recruitment process."

Minister for Employment, Equality, Culture and Tourism, the Hon. Christian Santos GMD MP, said:

“It is important that we stop looking at the disability and focus on what a person can bring to the workplace. If someone has the skills and ability to fulfil a role, their disability should not be a barrier to employment.

“Our Inclusive Recruitment Programme is about giving people a fair opportunity to demonstrate what they can do, including making reasonable adjustments where needed.

“Government must lead by example. We want persons with disabilities to know that we value their skills, abilities and potential and we will continue working to make our recruitment practices and workplaces more inclusive and accessible.”
