A HM Customs investigation commenced after a suspicious parcel was handed to a postal worker and subsequently referred to HM Customs for examination. Upon inspection, the parcel was found to contain approximately 1kg of cannabis resin.

Following enquiries conducted by the HM Customs Investigation Branch, officers established the identity of an individual suspected of being responsible for the parcel.

On Thursday 3rd September 2026, at approximately 1100hrs, officers from the Flexible Anti-Smuggling Team (FAST) arrested a male on suspicion of possession, possession with intent to supply, and attempted exportation of a Class B controlled drug. The offences date back to 25th August 2026.

Following his arrest, search warrants were executed at his residence and on his moped by officers from both the Flexible Anti-Smuggling Team and the Investigation Branch. During a search of the moped, officers located a wrapper containing a substance suspected to be cocaine.

The individual was subsequently further arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class A controlled drug. He was conveyed to New Mole Police Station for interview and processing before being released on bail pending further enquiries.

This investigation highlights the importance of continued cooperation between the Gibraltar Post Office and HM Customs, as well as the effective collaboration between the HM Customs Investigation Branch and the Flexible Anti-Smuggling Team in sharing information and working together to combat drug-related offences.
