His Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar was represented by the Head of the CSRO, Karl Triay, at the Asylum Network for Overseas Territories, held in London on the 26th and 27th of March. The event was hosted by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and the UK Home Office, bringing together representatives from Overseas Territories to share best practices and enhance collaboration on all asylum related processes.

This initiative aims to create a strong network for Overseas Territories to work together in a collaborative effort, ensuring effective problem-solving and knowledge-sharing in this vital area. The event provided an opportunity for Gibraltar to engage with counterparts from across the Overseas Territories and UK Government representatives to discuss challenges and innovative solutions in the asylum process.

The Asylum and Human Rights Operations team from the Home Office played a key role in organising the event and a special thanks goes out to all of them for their efforts.

The Head of CSRO, Karl Triay, stated: “This was an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas and develop a cooperative framework for asylum procedures across the Overseas Territories. By working together, we can strengthen our individual approaches and build more robust processes. I look forward to continued collaboration with our colleagues across the network.”

The Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo KC MP, also welcomed the initiative: “Gibraltar remains committed to playing its part in ensuring effective systems. The establishment of this network will foster greater cooperation between the Overseas Territories, enabling us to share expertise and support each other in managing this important workstream.”
