The press release issued by the GSD, and in particular, Hon Craig Sacarello MP, defending GibFibre Limited is factually and legally wrong in a number of respects.

In particular, the following statement by Hon Mr Sacarello is completely, factually incorrect:

"This brings into sharp relief the very serious question of the conflict of interest the Chief Minister faces: as Chairman of the company Gibtelecom and in his primary role as Chief Minister where he needs to consider wider public interests."

The Chief Minister is not the chairman of Gibtelecom.

Mr Picardo relinquished that role after to 2023 general election when he announced, on the assignment of Ministerial portfolios, that the chairman of Gibtelecom would be Hon Mr Nigel Feetham KC MP.

The Government therefore invites Hon Mr Sacarello MP to urgently accept that he is wrong in this respect which is pivotal to all of the rest of the argument that he puts in his press release.
