The Government notes the GSD’s hasty attack regarding water ingress experienced today at St Joseph’s School.
The Government takes this opportunity to reassure parents, including those who are also members of the Opposition, that the ingress was promptly dealt with by GFRS and GJBS and did not cause significant damage. This was already confirmed by the Government earlier today in answer to Press questions.
Drainage systems are regularly checked. Unfortunately, the heavy downpours overnight and this afternoon were very great. Parents can, however, be reassured that this school will have a major refurbishment at the start of next year, as outlined in the Government’s the manifesto.
The Minister for Education, the Hon John Cortes, said: ‘As is typical of their style, the GSD have jumped the gun again this evening looking to make political capital. Parents, including those who are members of the GSD Opposition, should remember that the old GSD schools were ALL a problem with the rain. Happily, the GSLP/Lib Government has replaced ten of them and is committed to continuous investment in Education.’
