GSD Fuels Detractors with Misleading Claims on Eastside - 607/2025

August 26, 2025

The GSD continues to flog a dead horse on the question of the east side. They fail to admit that they know that the project will not be possible without a marina, as they themselves know from their past proposals. Unlike the Government, and despite their plans, they were totally unable to get the project going, and it is they who ensured the rubble mountain grew and grew.

It is this Government that, despite the delay, is actually tackling it. Indeed, during the GSD administration, the current Minister for the Environment, then serving as an advisor from an environmental NGO, warned the Government against continuing to deposit rubble at the site and urged the Minister at the time to seek alternatives. His recommendations were ignored.

The Government’s position has been that the sea arm should not obscure the view of the horizon from Catalan Bay beach. This was also the concern of the DPC which requested the positioning of a boat at the southernmost point of the sea wall to show that it was in line with the north end of Catalan Bay. The DPC was satisfied and therefore approved the scheme.

The “Spanish issue” as they call it is not diversionary at all. The GSD is providing fuel to those who wish Gibraltar harm and want to stifle its economic progress. It seems that in this, as with many other issues, they care more about their Party than about what is good for Gibraltar.
