The Government notes with surprise the GSD’s call for publication of the McGrail Inquiry Report, as this is exactly what the Chief Minister confirmed earlier today in Parliament.
The Chief Minister, the Hon Fabian Picardo KC MP, stated this morning that the Chairman of the McGrail Inquiry had informed the Government that he intended to deliver the Report at around 4pm, and that the Government “very much looks forward to receipt of the said Inquiry Report and to tabling it in this House in coming weeks as required by Section 26 of the Inquiries Act 2024.”
In addition, the Chief Minister has already informed the Leader of the Opposition that, subject to legal advice, he will be provided with an embargoed copy of the Report in advance of its publication and laying in Parliament.
The Chief Minister, the Hon Fabian Picardo KC MP said:
“It is surprising that the Opposition has chosen to call on the Government to do precisely what I have already confirmed we will do. I made clear in Parliament this morning that the Report will be tabled and published in full, subject only to legal advice. I have also told the Leader of the Opposition personally that he will receive an embargoed copy in advance. The Government remains fully committed to transparency and to complying with the requirements of the Inquiries Act.”
