Following the tragic train accident in Spain, His Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar is taking steps to establish whether any Gibraltarians or Gibraltar residents may have been affected.
Given that the accident involved a train travelling between Seville and Madrid, and that it has occurred during the school mid-term break, when many Gibraltar families travel to Spain, the Government is conscious of the possibility that Gibraltarians or Gibraltar residents may have been among those travelling on the affected services.
At present, the Government has received no information to suggest that this is the case, nevertheless, the Government is liaising with the British Embassy in Madrid, through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and the Office of the Governor at the Convent, to seek information and establish whether anyone from Gibraltar has been affected.
Renfe has established a dedicated telephone helpline for family members seeking information about those who may have been affected by the accident. The helpline can be contacted on (+34) 900 10 10 20. Members of the public who are concerned about relatives or loved ones who may have been travelling on the affected services can contact Renfe directly through this number.
Members of the public who have information suggesting that a Gibraltarian or Gibraltar resident may have been affected by the accident are encouraged to contact HM Government of Gibraltar at overseascrisis@gibraltar.gov.gi. Any information received will be referred to the appropriate authorities.
