HM Government of Gibraltar is delighted to launch the “Name That Bus” school-wide competition, inviting Gibraltar’s school children to help name the new fleet of electric shuttle buses that will operate within the Upper Town and Upper Rock Nature Reserve.
The initiative forms part of the Government’s continued commitment to sustainable transport, environmental awareness and the protection of Gibraltar’s unique natural heritage. The new 100% electric shuttle buses are a key component of the wider strategy to reduce traffic congestion and vehicle emissions within the Nature Reserve whilst improving the visitor experience in an environmentally responsible way.
As part of the competition, children across Gibraltar’s schools are being encouraged to think creatively and submit fun, imaginative and environmentally inspired names for the eight new buses. The winning entries will each receive a very special prize, with the winning child’s class enjoying a VIP educational tour of the Upper Rock Nature Reserve and sites.
Minister for Transport, Professor John Cortes, said:
“This is a wonderful opportunity to involve our young people directly in one of Gibraltar’s important green initiatives. We want our children to feel part of the future of sustainable transport in Gibraltar whilst also encouraging creativity, environmental awareness and pride in our natural environment.
These new electric shuttle buses represent a major step forward in reducing the environmental impact of transport within the Town area and the Nature Reserve and preserving this unique area for future generations. I very much look forward to seeing the imaginative ideas our school children come up with.”
Entries should include the child’s name, school and class and must be submitted via email to MT@GIBRALTAR.GOV.GI no later than 13th June.
The Government encourages all schools, teachers and parents to support the initiative and help inspire the next generation to continue thinking green and embracing sustainable solutions for Gibraltar’s future."
