Glacis Road – Planter Reprofiling and Road Widening Works

The HM Government of Gibraltar advises the public that works will be undertaken to reprofile the existing planters along Glacis Road in order to widen the carriageway at a heavily used heavy goods vehicles (HGV) pinch point.

The works are being carried out to provide additional road space for larger HGVs and escorted abnormal loads travelling through this section. The increased clearance will help to minimise the need for contraflow arrangements and temporary road closures when larger loads are required to pass through the area.

Works and Traffic Management

Works are scheduled to commence on Saturday 26 September 2026 and will be carried out during the following periods:

Saturday 26 September 2026 - 16:00hrs to 23:00hrs

Sunday 27 September 2026 - 09:00hrs to 23:00hrs

Monday 28 September to Friday 2 October 2026 - 19:00hrs to 23:00hrs daily

Saturday 3 October 2026 - 16:00hrs to 23:00hrs

Sunday 4 October 2026 - 09:00hrs to 23:00hrs

Monday 5 October 2026 - 19:00hrs to 23:00hrs

During the above periods, Glacis Road southbound will be subject to temporary traffic management and closed to general vehicular traffic, with an exception to allow HGVs and large coaches to pass through the works area where required.

General vehicular traffic will be diverted via the left-hand southbound lane towards Corral Road and Line Wall Road, or alternatively via Bayside Road.

Temporary traffic management and diversion signage will be installed on all approaches to the affected area. Traffic management operatives will be positioned on site to assist with the safe and orderly movement of vehicles.

Bus Services

Bus services will be temporarily diverted via Corral Road during the specified working periods.

The existing Constitution House bus stop will be temporarily suspended for the duration of the works and during the traffic management periods outlined above.

Pedestrian Access

Pedestrian access will remain unaffected throughout the works.

Drivers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly, allow additional time and exercise caution when approaching the works area. All road users are reminded to comply with temporary traffic management measures, road signs and directions from traffic management operatives.
