The Gibraltar Port Authority (GPA) has participated in ITN’s ‘Navigating the Future of Shipping’ programme, which launched yesterday at the UK Chamber of Shipping Annual Conference. The programme, produced by ITN Business in collaboration with the UK Chamber of Shipping, is designed to spotlight innovation and technological advancements that are shaping the future of the maritime industry.
The programme aims to address the significant challenges facing global shipping, such as climate change, whilst at the same time exploring new opportunities for sustainable growth. Peninsula, one of Gibraltar's main port operators, also participated in the programme adding industry perspectives as well as explaining their own drive to increasing sustainability in the shipping industry.
Captain of the Port, John Ghio, said: “I was delighted that the Gibraltar Port Authority, together with Government and Industry, were able to participate in this programme as it provides us with a unique opportunity to showcase the strides we are making in ensuring Gibraltar continues as a Maritime Centre of Excellence.”
The Minister for the Port and Maritime Services, the Hon Gemma Arias-Vasquez, said: “Participating in ITN’s Navigating the Future of Shipping programme was a great opportunity to demonstrate the role Gibraltar plays in international maritime operations, while highlighting our commitment, both as a Government and as the GPA, to reducing our carbon footprint and increasing sustainability. I would like to thank the Gibraltar Port Authority and Peninsula for their involvement in this.”
