This October, Gibraltar is proud to join the global Stoptober campaign, encouraging smokers to quit for 28 days and beyond. Supported by Public Health Gibraltar and the Gibraltar Health Authority, this initiative is part of a broader effort to improve public health and reduce smoking-related illnesses.
Stoptober, inspired by the successful NHS campaign in the UK, provides a perfect opportunity for smokers to take the first step towards a healthier, smoke-free life. Research shows that if you stop smoking for 28 days, you are five times more likely to quit for good.

Public Health Gibraltar and the GHA offer a variety of support services, including:
The Director of Public Health, Dr Helen Carter, said: “Stoptober is a fantastic opportunity for smokers in Gibraltar to take control of their health. Quitting smoking has immediate and long-term health benefits. Within one year your risk of having a heart attack has halved. With the help from the GHA smoking cessation clinic, you are three times more likely to have a successful quit attempt than trying to quit on your own. It’s never too late to try to quit and we are here to support you.”
