The Insurance Breakfast in London’s One America Square marked a significant celebration of Gibraltar's prominence and focus on the insurance sector, and its enduring partnership with the United Kingdom.
The day commenced with an informal breakfast amongst attendees, a diverse assembly of insurance owners, executives and advisors, who gathered to kick-start this highly anticipated event.
The Hon Nigel Feetham KC, Gibraltar's Minister with responsibility for Financial Services, took centre stage and set the scene for a morning of thought-provoking discussions, emphasising the paramount role of insurance in Gibraltar's financial services success story.
Hannah Gurga, the Director General of the Association of British Insurers (ABI), assumed the spotlight shortly after. Her introductory remarks shed light on ABI's invaluable contribution to the insurance sector and its commitment to fostering international collaborations.
One of the highlights of the morning was the panel discussion, "Success of Women in Insurance," a tribute to the remarkable achievements of women in the insurance industry. Under the Hanna’s moderation, the audience was treated to insights and experiences shared by two distinguished panellists:
Donna Scully, Director/Owner of Carpenters Group, brought forth her wealth of experience and expertise; and Claire Burrell, representing Ardonagh Group, added her unique perspective to the discussion, emphasising the need for diversity and inclusivity in the industry.
Kerry Blight, CEO of the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (GFSC), gave an update on the GFSC’s staged approach to licensing applications before introducing the second panel discussion, "what is the future of insurance and how will technology shape it".
This panel, led by Mohammad Khan, the Global head of Risk Managed Services and the UK Head of General Insurance at PwC UK.
Mohammad, who is a partner in PwC's insurance and actuarial practice, delved into the pivotal role of technology in shaping the future of insurance. The audience had the privilege of hearing from:
Alexander Kent-Braham, Co-Founder & Co-CEO of Marshmallow, who shared insights into the innovative use of technology in insurance.
Emma Huntington, CEO of Admiral Pioneer, offered a forward-looking perspective on the industry's tech-driven evolution.
The event concluded with a networking session, allowing attendees to forge new connections, exchange ideas, and explore potential collaborations.
