GHA to Celebrate Allied Health Professionals’ Day at the Piazza - 642/2024

October 07, 2024

On Monday 14th October 2024, the GHA will be celebrating Allied Health Professionals (AHP) Day. During the morning, there will be a stand at the Piazza manned by the different AHP professionals highlighting their invaluable contribution to healthcare in Gibraltar.

AHPs are a diverse group of healthcare professionals who play vital roles in delivering high quality healthcare to patients, including diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation.

There are over fourteen different AHP professions recognised by the NHS including occupational therapists, orthoptists, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, dietitians and radiographers, to name a few, which make up a third of the GHA clinical workforce.

AHPs work in a wide variety of settings including St Bernard’s Hospital, Ocean Views Hospital, the Primary Care Centre, residential homes, as well as in people’s own homes.

This year’s theme is QUALITY AND SAFETY. AHP Day provides a platform to highlight the significant impact AHPs have on delivering high-quality care.

In addition, the aim of the day is to:

  • Reinforce awareness about the roles of the individual Allied Health Professions.
  • Highlight their achievements and their influence on patient care.
  • Show how collaborative efforts with other services and organisations are part of integrated working.
  • Provide a showcase for those considering a career as an AHP.

GHA Director General, Mr Kevin McGee, said: “The stand that our AHPs will be staffing at the Piazza next Monday 14th October will be an opportunity to explain the collaborative nature of the health service, and how the different pieces come together and result in the delivery of an excellent health care for our community.  It will also be an opportunity to provide useful information for anyone considering a career in any of the wide variety of clinical occupations that make up the AHPs.”

The Minister for Health and Care, the Hon Gemma Arias-Vasquez, said: “I am delighted at this initiative to celebrate the invaluable professional work and dedication of AHPs to healthcare and patient safety in Gibraltar. It is appropriate that we highlight the important role these professionals fulfil on a daily basis across the health service, and the wide range of vital clinical functions that they carry out”.
