GCS and GNBC attend London Book Fair and Cultural Enterprises Conference 2025 - 211/2025

March 28, 2025

Members of Gibraltar Cultural Services (GCS), on behalf of the Ministry of Culture, and the Gibraltar National Book Council (GNBC) recently attended the London Book Fair and the Cultural Enterprises Conference in Liverpool. The trip proved to be a highly productive experience, providing new opportunities for collaboration, networking, and establishing valuable contacts within the literary and cultural industries.

During their time at the events, discussions were held on various initiatives. A meeting with the British Council explored possible collaborations and connections with other member states around the world though literary programmes. Additionally, plans are underway to launch the Summer Reading Challenge from the John Mackintosh Hall Library this year, creating further engagement within the local literary community.

Meetings with industry professionals, publishers and agents opened doors for ideas and connections that will help integrate Gibraltar’s literary scene into the global conversation. Key topics discussed included strategies for building literary communities, preparing for publications and maintaining a presence on social media. At the Cultural Enterprises Conference, topics discussed included utilising data as insight and discussing the role of innovation in the visitor experience. GNBC members met in London too, exploring ideas for workshops and other initiatives that aim to be rolled out in the coming months.

GCS Managers also connected with local artists showcasing their work at the London Art Fair, organised by Artspace in the UK. Monica Popham and Jack Hernandez received support from GCS as part of its ongoing mission to nurture artists' growth and expand their opportunities abroad.

This trip underscored Gibraltar's growing presence in the international cultural and literary landscape, and its commitment to fostering creative opportunities and connections that benefit the Rock's vibrant cultural scene.
