December 11, 2025
His Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar is pleased to announce the launch of the new “G-less” personalised motor vehicle registration plates.
From 10:00am on Friday 12th December, people will be able to purchase these exclusive plates online at www.personalisedplates.gov.gi
To maintain clarity and high standards, certain letters (“I”, “O”, “Q”, “S” and “Z”) will be excluded to avoid confusion with numerical characters.
Motorists will have the ability to design their own unique plate online, while a very exclusive selection of premium and ultra-exclusive plates will be released for auction as from Quarter 2 of 2026, offering car collectors and enthusiasts worldwide rare opportunities to secure highly desirable combinations.

If a “G-less” personalised plate is re-sold by the owner, the seller is required to pay the licensing authority 10% of any profit from the sale to transfer the ownership. The Government will therefore retain an economic interest in any onward transfer of these plates.
The Chief Minister, the Hon Fabian Picardo, said: ‘The Government launched Gibraltar’s first ever personalised number plates exactly one year ago and has to date raised almost £2 million for the public purse. This exciting new development is sure to generate renewed interest from vehicle owners, starting with the auction of Gibraltar’s first “G-less” number plate R0CK tonight, proudly donated by the Government in aid of GBC Open Day.’
