Exemption from payment of Rates

EXEMPTION FROM PAYMENT OF RATES – CLUBS, ASSOCIATIONS ETC.

 

Section 279(k) of the Public Health Act provides for the exemption of payment of rates to non-residential premises occupied by a club, association or society, not established or conducted for profit, in accordance with the criteria laid down from time to time by the Government.  The Government has laid down the following criteria for the time being:-

“That the club, association or society

(a)   is formally constituted and registered; and

(b)   is established for social, cultural, educational, sporting or other recreational activities in Gibraltar for benefit of persons residing in Gibraltar (but not for political purpose); and

(c)   has non-residential premises and does not allow the premises to be exempted to be used for residential use; and

(d)   has no unsettled arrears of electricity, water or other Government dues, exceeding 3 months; and

(e)   does not normally allow its premises to be used by the general public for commercial gain”.

Application forms for such exemption covering the period 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2021 can be downloaded from the Government website or collected from No 6 Convent Place.  Completed forms must be returned to the Office of the Chief Secretary, No. 6 Convent Place, before 31 March 2020.
