South District Phase Update
HM Government of Gibraltar advises the public of the following update regarding the progress of the Eastside Sewage Transfer Scheme (ESTS) works within the Rosia/South District area.
Transport Road – Road Closure and Traffic Diversions
To facilitate resurfacing works on Transport Road, including the removal of the temporary road surface, the following temporary traffic management arrangements will be in place from 18:00hrs on Friday 23 October 2026 until Friday 30 October 2026 inclusive.
- Transport Road – The road will be closed in its entirety to vehicular traffic for the duration of the works.
- Traffic circulation – Traffic will be diverted southbound towards Rosia Parade, turning right onto Rosia Road (or southbound towards Camp Bay). Traffic circulation along this section will be reversed, with the furthest southern point accessible being New Mole House, the Dockyard and Cumberland Terraces via Rosia Road.
- Access to the southern areas – Southbound traffic travelling towards Rosia Cottages, Camp Bay, Little Bay and Europa Point will be diverted via Europa Road, South Barrack Road, South Pavilion Road and onto Rosia Road.
- Anchorage Car Park and private property access – Both will be temporarily closed for the duration of this phase. Affected private parking spaces will be temporarily relocated to Rosia Road, in the vicinity of the 100 Ton Gun and on Centre Pavilion Road.
Temporary traffic management and diversion signage will be installed on all approaches to the affected area. Drivers are advised to follow the temporary signage and comply with all traffic management measures.
Parking Restrictions
The following parking restrictions will apply to facilitate the implementation of the temporary traffic management arrangements:
- From 12:00hrs on Friday 23 October 2026 – Parking restrictions will be introduced along The Anchorage, near the 100 Ton Gun, and on South Pavilion Road to allow vehicles to be repositioned in the correct orientation for the revised traffic flow. These parking spaces may be reused once the temporary traffic management plan has been implemented.
- Transport Road – All parking spaces along Transport Road will be suspended for the duration of the works.
Pedestrian Access
Pedestrian access through Transport Road will not be permitted for the duration of this phase. Pedestrians are advised to use alternative routes and follow any temporary signage in place.
Bus Services
Bus routes and schedules will be amended to accommodate the temporary traffic management arrangements.
- Route 6 – This will be the only route operating from South Pavilion and stopping at Rosia Plaza.
- Route 9 – This route will not be able to serve South Pavilion during the diversion. Instead, it will use Bayview Terraces as its temporary terminus. From there, it will proceed directly to Cumberland and continue along its normal Route 9 service.
HM Government of Gibraltar thanks the public for their patience and cooperation and apologises for any inconvenience these essential infrastructure works may cause.
