Department of Education assisting in teaching recruitment in UK, the UK Overseas Territories, and Morocco 262/2025

April 10, 2025

The Department of Education is assisting in teaching recruitment in UK, the UK Overseas Territories, and Morocco.

All these countries have a shortage of teachers.  In the case of Morocco, as the education system increases the use of English, teachers who can teach in English are in demand.  This step has been taken following meetings between the Minister for Education John Cortes and UK Education Minister Stephen Morgan, with the Secretary General of the Moroccan Ministry for Education and Sport Younes Shaimi, and following several contacts with leaders of the Overseas territories.

Gibraltar is fortunate in having many teaching professional some of whom, despite being well qualified, continue without regular work and on supply lists.  The Government has therefore agreed to circulate teaching vacancies within its supply lists.

Teachers who apply for posts in this countries through the programme, and who are successful, will continue to be on the Government Supply List and continue to be eligible to apply for permanent posts.

The Government feels that this will open opportunities for teachers who wish to do so to gain experience elsewhere rather than remain without employment or in non-teaching jobs.

The vacancies so far circulated are in the United Kingdom (The John Wallis Church of England Academy), Tristan da Cunha and Tangier (The Everest School).  There is interest also from the Falkland Islands and other schools in Morocco.
