It is with deep sadness that HM Government of Gibraltar has learned of the death of Sir David Amess MP. The violent attack on a serving Member of Parliament at his constituency surgery represented an attack on our democracy as a whole. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his family, friends and colleagues at this terrible time.

The Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, QC MP, said: ‘I am deeply saddened at the news of the death of Sir David Amess and my deepest condolences go to his family, friends and colleagues. He was a long standing and well respected Member of Parliament and he will be sorely missed. The violent attack against him was a horrific attack on British democracy.’
