BCA and Customs confirm no incidents at Airport - 571/2026

July 18, 2026

The Borders and Coastguard Agency and HM Customs have confirmed that no incidents were experienced or witnessed on any of yesterday’s flights.

A recent video circulating on social media is based on false statements. The Government has checked CCTV and obtained statements from BCA and Customs Officers confirming that the statements contained in that video are substantially untrue.

The Government is also pleased to confirm that all e-Gates are now working well, with the longest queue yesterday being around 50 minutes for British/non-EU nationals. Operations continue smoothly today, with all passengers from this morning’s arrival flight cleared within 20 minutes. This points to the smooth running of the system at Gibraltar Airport in the context of the hours-long queues being experienced across the whole of Europe.

The public are reminded that Gibraltar residents are exempt from EES but must have their up-to-date ID or Civilian Registration cards available for inspection on arrival to confirm this. Without these documents, Gibraltar residents who are not EU nationals will be subject to EES.

To help make the Gibraltar Airport experience as comfortable as possible for passengers, the Government are providing water for all arrivals and departures, seating to those who need it, and Tourist Information Officers to offer assistance. Extra resources have been allocated and a further 6 EES kiosks are expected to arrive on Thursday, which will help to reduce wait times.

Teething issues are to be expected with the implementation of any new system and the Government thanks residents and visitors to Gibraltar for their patience and understanding whilst we transition through this pivotal moment in our history.
