The Government of Gibraltar is constantly endeavouring to make Gibraltar an International E-Business Centre and firmly believes that it is in a position to benefit significantly from ICT and its development as a modern and thriving information society.

The information, communication and technological revolution have created new economies for many countries and have thus had a profound impact on commerce, education, entertainment, banking, leisure, travel and legislation. In this day and age, governments, organisations and businesses alike need to rethink and adapt their practices in order to keep up with an ever-changing business environment that is being shaped by advances in technology.

The Government of Gibraltar has subsequently been developing strategies to create an ideal, dynamic setting for businesses to trade electronically. This online business undertaking will be supported by a faster and more reliable framework of communications, infrastructure and legislation in view of assisting the growth of electronic trade.

The new liberalisation and regulation of telecommunications, the introduction of The Electronic Commerce Act (TECA 2001) and the adoption of EU directives into local legislation will give Gibraltar a great advantage over other jurisdictions competing in the same marketplace.
