The Post Office is a department of the Gibraltar Government which has run the postal services for Gibraltar since 1886. Its aim is to continue existing services, enhancing the quality by acquiring modern technology and to introduce new services whenever possible. In addition to the normal letter and parcel post services, which include registration and express, the Gibraltar Post Office provides several other services such as EMS (previously Datapost). Post Restante facilities and private P.O. Boxes. The latter having been increased in the number by over 700 boxes this year. The Post Office operates a banking facility on behalf of the Gibraltar Savings Bank, consisting mainly of Ordinary Deposit Accounts. Gibraltar issued legal tender coins, phonecards and British Postal Orders are available from the General Counter's. “ In 2005 the Gibraltar Post Office was granted the title of "Royal" by Her Majesty the Queen. Gibraltar is now the only Commonwealth or British Overseas Territory outside the United Kingdom that enjoys this distinction. It joins Royal Mail in bearing the title "Royal". The Gibraltar Post Office is now known as the Royal Gibraltar Post Office.”

Mails Information

Collection times for Mail is 07.00 hours at street pillar boxes and 09.45 hours from Main Post Office.
Air Mail is despatched daily except for Saturdays, via U.K. to worldwide destinations. All spanish mail is despatched via the land frontier weekdays.

British Postal Orders are available for sale from the General Counters in denominations ranging from 50p to £20 and are also cashed. Poste Restante

This service is available to travellers for both letter and parcel services. ther person collecting will be required to provide proof of identification: (eg- passport, ID Card). P. O. Boxes

The Post Office provides private P. O. Boxes for rent £40 and £70 for small and large respectively. Currently there is a total of 1650 boxes. Boxes are currently available for rent.

Currency and Finance It should be noted that at present all cash transactions with the Gibraltar Post Office may be conducted in sterling or Gibraltar currency only. No foreign currencies are accepted.
