| The
Minister for Consumer Affairs, Bernard Linares, accompanied by Mrs
Maruchi Risso who heads the Consumer Affairs Unit will be attending
the UK’s National Consumer Week on Monday as guests.
Gibraltar’s attendance is intended to
enable the Gibraltar Government to assess current practices in the
UK with a view to modernising our own practices and legislation in
this area. The central theme is Home Safe and Sound featuring the
trading standards role in the community and consumer safety together
with the wider health and well being agenda including protecting
young people form the sale of age restricted products, such as
alcohol and cigarettes. Protecting older people from doorstep crime
and clamping down on the illegal sales of goods on the Internet.
Fireworks safety will also be featuring high on the agenda. Trading
standards services will come together with the Trading Standards
Institute to expose the practices used by those intent on consumer
fraud and deception and where possible, arm people with the know-how
to fight back. |
