The Gibraltar Cruise Terminal welcomed its
one-millionth passenger since it opened in 1997. The lucky passenger
was Mrs Sandra Young who was accompanied by her husband Mr Stanley
Young. Mr and Mrs Young are from Newcastle in the UK. The passengers
arrived on the cruise ship Sea Princess.
The passengers were welcomed by a fanfare provided
by the Rooke Volunteer Band and the Gibraltar Tourist Board’s
History Alive Group provided a guard of honour.
The Minister for Trade, Industry and Communications,
The Hon Joe Holliday greeted the passengers along with Captain
William Kent of the Sea Princess. Miss Gibraltar 2004, Helen
Gustafson, presented a sash and a bouquet of flowers to Mrs Young.
The passengers were presented with two return Club
Class tickets from London to Gibraltar courtesy of the Gibraltar
Tourist Board and British Airways (operated by GB Airways), along
with a voucher for a three night luxury break at The Rock Hotel
which was handed over by the Hotel’s General Manager, Mr Stephen
Mr Pierre Boulle of investorseurope presented a free
offshore trading account for the lucky passenger to ‘Trade the World
from the Rock’.
Numerous other gifts were provided by members of the
Gibraltar Chamber of Commerce and the GFSB and by the Gibraltar Arts
and Crafts Society.
After the presentation the Gibraltar Tourist Board
treated Mr and Mrs Young to a VIP Rock Tour and lunch.
The Rooke Volunteer Band provided the musical
accompaniment for the event and continued to play at the Gibraltar
Cruise Terminal for the benefit of other passengers until 1100.
