During his visit to FITUR yesterday, Minister for Tourism &
Transport Joe Holliday held a meeting with the Minister for Tourism of Morocco, Mr Adil
Douiri.
The meeting held at the Morocco stand at FITUR. The detailed
discussions focussed on different ways in which Gibraltar and Morocco could work together
in the development of a two-centre holiday destination, as well as the promotion of
tourism from Morocco to Gibraltar and vice-versa.
Both ministers agreed to meet again with officials to develop
strategies on the way forward. Minister for Tourism Joe Holliday has been officially
invited to visit Rabat at a date to be agreed shortly to hold the next meeting. An
invitation was extended by Mr Holliday for the Minister for Tourism of Morocco, Mr Adil
Douiri to visit Gibraltar.
"I am delighted to have had this opportunity to meet my
counterpart from Morocco and to have discussed areas of common interest," said
Minister for Tourism Joe Holliday. "Morocco offers great potential for us to develop
a combined tourism product and regenerate tourism traffic between Morocco and Gibraltar,
in both directions. There is a great deal of work to be done to successfully bring this to
fruition. However, I am confident that we will succeed in our endeavours with the goodwill
of both sides."
The meeting was covered by Moroccan television and press.
