The main role of the department is the
maintenance (subject to the terms of the Tenancy Agreement), and refurbishment of
Government rented accommodation in the following process:Reports of complaints from
tenants are received at the Reporting Office, either by telephone, or in person.
Information regarding the nature of the report, works to be carried out and other
statistical details are all documented in a centralised database system.
The report is then processed, commencing with the estimation of the works to be carried
out, prioritizing and programming the works, and finally the commencement and completion
of the actual works.
In addition to reports from tenants regarding maintenance works, the department has
also to carry out major structural works to the housing stock.
On occasions, it has also contracted out specific projects to private firms.
The department is also responsible for the general upkeep and cleanliness of Government
owned housing estates.
