Office of the Drug Strategy Coordinator Print E-mail

The Office of the Drug Strategy Co-ordinator is tasked with overseeing the central aims of the Government’s Drug Strategy. These can be separated into the following fields of action:
  
•  PREVENTION
•  REHABILITATION
•  ENFORCEMENT

Effectively tackling these areas seeks to achieve the following outcomes:

•  Diminish the misuse of drugs
•  Minimise the availability of drugs by concentrating our law enforcement effort

On suppliers and distributors:

•  Increase the focus on confiscating assets from drug trafficking 
•  Ensure full collaboration between enforcement and intelligence agencies
•  Help young people understand the consequences of drug consumption
•  Provide young people with opportunities for personal fulfilment
•  Create awareness amongst the public on the risks of drug use through provision of effective information
•  Enhance and improve rehabilitation and after care services

The Co-ordinator works closely with the Minister for Family, Youth & Community Affairs and the Drugs Advisory Council. This statutory group comprises members from the following bodies:
   
•  The Youth Service
•  Social Services Agency
•  Education Department
•  Gibraltar Health Authority
•  Royal Gibraltar Police
•  Customs
•  Bruce’s Farm Rehabilitation Centre

Since it’s inception in 1973, the Drugs Advisory Council has been tasked with advising Government in all matters relating to drugs. The following links relate to some of the legislation that is relevant to the work of the Drugs Advisory Council
